Sayings of the Messenger احادیثِ رسول اللہ ﷺ

Narrated from Aishah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "No man does any deed on the day of Nahr (sacrifice) more beloved to Allah then spilling blood. On the Day of judgement, it will appear with its horns, and hair, and hooves, and indeed the blood will be accepted by Allah from before it even falls upon earth, so please yourself with this."

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ slaughtered two horned male sheep which were two colored (black and white). He slaughtered them with his hand and mentioned Allah's Name, and he said 'Allahu Akbar', placing his foot on their side.

Narrated from Hanash that Ali (RA) used to slaughter two male sheep, one for the Prophet ﷺ and the other for himself. When this was mentioned to him, he said: "He commanded me to" - meaning the Prophet ﷺ - "So I will never leave it."

Narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ slaughtered a horned ram that was a male. Its mouth, feet and eyes were black.

Narrated from Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (RA) in a Marfu' narration (from the Prophet (ﷺ)), who said: "A lame animal whose limp is obvious is not to be slaughtered as sacrifice, nor an one-eyed animal whose blindness is obvious, nor a sick animal whose sickness is obvious, nor a weak animal having no marrow (in its bones)."

Narrated from Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ commanded us to examine the eyes and ears, and not to slaughter the Muqabalah, nor the Mudabarah, nor the Sharqa', nor the Kharqa. Another chain from Ali (RA) from the Prophet ﷺ and it is similar, but he added: "The Muqabalah is the one whose ears have been severed, the Mudabarah is the one with the sides of its ears cut off, and the Sharqa' is one with its ears split, and the Khurqa' is the one whose ears have a hole pierced through them.

Abu Kibash said: "I brought Jadha (six months old) sheep to Al-Madinah (for sale) but it remained with me. I saw Abu Hurairah (RA) and I asked him about it, so he said: 'I heard the Apostle of Allah ﷺ saying: "The best male - or - female sacrifice is that from the Jadha' sheep." He said: "So the people took note of that (they became interested in buying)."

Narrated from Uqbah bin Amir (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ gave him sheep to distribute among his Companions as a sacrifice. One remained with him. It was a year-old or six-month old. He mentioned that to Allah’s Apostle ﷺ who said, “You make a sacrifice with it.” Waki' said: "The Jadha' among sheep is seven or six months."

Ibn Abbas (RA) said: "We were accompanied by the Apostle of Allah ﷺ on a journey when the Adha (Day of sacrifice) came, so we shared seven for a cow and ten for a camel."

Jabir (RA) said: "We made the Nahr (sacrifice) with the Apostle of Allah ﷺ at Al-Hudaibiyyah: A camel for seven (persons) and a cow for seven (persons)."

Hujayyah bin Adi said: “Ali (Ra) said: 'A cow is for seven.' I said: ‘And if it gives birth?' He said: 'Then slaughter its offspring with it.' I said: 'What if it is lame?' He said: 'When it has reached the place of ritual.' I said: 'What if it has a broken horn?' He said: 'There is no harm, we were commanded - or - 'The Apostle of Allah ﷺ commanded us, to check the two eyes and the two ears.'"

Narrated from Ali (RA) that the Apostle of Allah ﷺ disallowed slaughtering an animal with a A'dab (stump) horn or ear should as a sacrifice." Qatadah (one of the narrators) said: "So I mentioned this to Sa'eed bin Al-Musayyab and he said: 'The A'dab is that which equals or more than that.'"

Ata bin Yasar said: "I asked Abu Abyub Al-Ansari (RA), how was the slaughtering done during the time of the Apostle of Allah ﷺ. He replied: 'A man would sacrifice a sheep for himself and his family members. They would eat from it and feed others, until the people (later) started to brag and boast about it and it became as you see now."
